As you must be knowing that AIDS is growing to the extent of epidemic
proportions. It may have killed many more people around the world than people killed
in terrorist activities, and the most major causes of the fatality of this disease is the
ignorance related to it.
AIDS was discovered on June 5, 1981 in Los Angeles. Globally, between 33.4 and 46 million people currently live with HIV. Sub-Saharan Africa remains by far the worst affected region, with an estimated 21.6 to 27.4 million people currently living with HIV. UNO and the WHO estimate that AIDS has killed more than 25 million people since it was first discovered in 1981, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. Aids has already engulfed millions of people, and is still spreading at an alarming rate. There are many ways in which a person can contract Aids, and once this happens there is no escaping from it. Aids virus destroys a person’s immune system thereby making human body vulnerable to attack by external agents.
In this respect we have tried to take an initiative to eliminate the ignorance related to the subject. As we are a part of one of the worlds biggest organisation, consisting of 6000 clubs and about 1,60,000 rotaractors , which makes us sure that any small step from our side will bring in major results. We have initiated a project named " DOSE OF HOPE" in which we are requesting our fellow rotaracotrs to prepare a banner in which they would take the "signatures & messages" of every rotaractor / rotarian and general public, for the patients suffering from this disease.
We believe that at least a total banner length of 15 km will be achieved.(from all over the world) Utmost support on your part is needed to make this campaign as one of the largest campaign for AIDS awareness in the world. Minimum length of 5 mtrs.X1 mtrs. (apprpox) is required from every club, and the club sending banner with the maximum length will awarded. The collection of the banner can be done from any NGO, Institution or any voluntary serving organisation within or out of the R.I. District.
Kindly send us the banner with any other campaign promoting
material(snaps/newspaper cuttings etc. ) within two months form the date of receiving
this letter. The material collected from every club will be collectively exhibited in the
forthcoming major event at CHANDIGARH / SHIMLA.We would appeal to every participating Rotaractor, that this campaign should
not be taken as merely collection of the banners but as an effective medium to spread
through awareness about the topic. We think that this movement will bring the people in direct contact with the
problem and will give them chance to know about it through interaction on this topic.
This vicious disease cannot be defeated in a month or in a year; but if we sustain our
commitment and if we match our compassion with action, we will one day bring hope to
all who are living in the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
